Visual & Performing Arts

We're making education better for our students with a visual and performing arts program that enhances expression and imagination. Students learn to observe and interpret the world through a unique lens. They find and develop their passions and self-confidence as they produce and perform. We invite you to explore our offerings below.

  • This year-long course emphasizes the elements of music, music literature, and reading printed scores.  Rhythm, harmony, and sight-reading are stressed in the beginning mastery of an individual instrument and in working with a group.  This class will meet every day for the entire year.  Parents are encouraged to contact the band director to discuss the purchase or loan of band instruments.  Performances are part of the students’ development.

  • Ensemble Chorus

Students in this course will learn all the aspects in Chorus/Handbells, but additionally will be pushed to a competition level of singing and performance.  Students will have the opportunity, if chosen, to attend selected clinics such as:  All County Chorus, Wingate University, All State Chorus, and MPA's (graded competition before judges).  Students may participate in competitions at Dollywood and Carowinds.  Students perform the National Anthem at select sporting events, host community concerts, travel back to their elementary school to promote chorus, and perform at Christmas and Spring concerts.

    Chorus/Handbells

Students will learn how to sing in a group, singing in harmony, as well as singing independent parts.  They will learn proper breathing, posture, diction, vowel production, blending, phrasing, music notation, music reading skills, music terminology, rhythms, and sight-singing.  Students will learn the art of handbell ringing with proper grip, ringing motion, and damping skills.  The students will also learn music notation, music reading skills, handbell notation and techniques, music terminology, rhythms, and sight-reading.  There will be a concert performance for all chorus/handbell members.

  • This is a semester-long course designed to introduce and strengthen students’ artistic skills and knowledge. This course will include projects and daily activities that will boost students' critical thinking skills and artistic ability. Class participation is important in the art classroom. As a class, we will learn about many different art mediums, styles, and processes, as well as art history and current happenings in the art world. When students are not in the classroom, they will have projects to work on at home. We will focus on pacing goals for each week with every project. All communication will be through Google Classroom. Students will be graded on class assignments, art projects, and their sketchbooks.
