NC School Report Card
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction provides a yearly “report card” for every public school in the state. These report cards offer a snapshot of school performance, including:
-
Student achievement and growth
-
Class size and attendance
-
School safety
-
Instructional resources
-
Teacher quality
Each school receives an overall performance grade of A, B, C, D, or F, based on:
-
80% proficiency (student performance on end-of-grade and end-of-course exams)
-
20% growth (academic progress students make over the course of a year)
Additional measures such as ACT scores, graduation rates, WorkKeys results, and English Learner progress are also included. While proficiency shows what a student knows at a certain point in time, growth reflects how much progress they make over time.
At Maiden Middle School, we believe personalized learning is essential. Every student should experience growth, no matter where they are on their educational journey.
School Improvement Plan
At Maiden Middle School, we are committed to continuous growth. We regularly evaluate our practices, celebrate what’s working, and seek new ways to improve. Our School Improvement Team—made up of staff, parents, and students —meets regularly throughout the year to review progress, discuss concerns, and set goals.
All North Carolina schools are required to submit a School Improvement Plan (SIP) to their local Board of Education for review and approval as outlined by state law. To support this work, we use NCStar, a web-based planning tool that provides more than 100 research-based indicators of effective practice. These indicators are personalized to meet the needs of our school and district.
Our SIP on NCStar is view-only, but it provides real-time transparency so that staff, families, district leaders, and community members can stay informed about our goals and progress.
